Rye Players - bringing drama and music to the local community

 

‘Stop Messing About’ followed on the heels of the very popular radio show ‘Round the Horne’ which had ended due to the sudden and untimely death of its host, Kenneth Horne. The new show was, primarily, a vehicle for Kenneth Williams and his wonderfully eccentric range of vocal characterisations. Supporting him were Hugh Paddick, Douglas Smith and Joan Sims, all fellow members of the Round the Horne cast.
The first episode was recorded at the BBC’s Paris Theatre on Lower Regent Street on Monday 17 March 1969, and the final show was transmitted on 27 August 1970. The shows was re-broadcast on BBC7 in summer 2006 and spring 2008.
In this wonderfully fresh stage adaptation, Director Alan Sinden will bring some of those magical characters and silly situations back to life at the Rye Community Centre.
